Caught in a co-dependent relationship?

Many people have difficulty understanding why some people put up with and stay in an addictive environment for so long.

“Why did you stay?”

“I just can’t imagine putting up with all that craziness for all those years!”

The main reason co-dependents stay is because they know in their heart that the person that they fell in love with and married is not the addictive person they see before them.  They hope against hope that the person that they know will eventually return and they are willing to wait.  Co-dependents are always hoping and praying for a miracle to restore the person and restore their lives back to normal!  This desire causes the co-dependent to stay and to try anything or everything they can think of to get back to the way things were before all the drinking/using.
