When you find yourself involved in the co-dependency paradigm which includes the maze of pain, frustration and fear you might feel it would be easier to just put your life and happiness on hold. All your time, attention, and resources become focused on the alcoholic/addict in your life.
Your major quest becomes figuring out what you can do to get them clean and sober. Some co-dependents become so focused on this mission that they fail to notice the devastation and destruction which has befallen them and the other family members. Ignoring your own needs, desires, and happiness to rescue another person can become a daunting task. Life will not become easier or better until you learn about addiction, understand your role, and began to change your co-dependency paradigm if you truly want to help the alcoholic/addict in your life.
